Folks –

Don’t forget that our first class meeting is this Sunday at 7:30PM ET. There’s nothing for you to turn in that night, but I do want you to do a couple things for me. First, go out to our ELS site and have a look at the “Welcome” narrated Powerpoint presentation I put together for you. Next, although you don’t have any non-text required readings until the second week, make sure you can access the readings from the Stetson library site. Also, you don’t have any Harvard cases until the second week, but go out to the Harvard site and make sure you can download the cases. Finally, log in to our Elluminate site and make sure your headsets are working OK. Our second meeting will be Wednesday the 13th. You do have required readings and video reviews for that class session. See the ELS site for details.

We’ll use our class meeting on Sunday to iron out any syllabus issues you might have and to deal with any problems you might have with the library site, the Harvard site, or Elluminate. Let me know ASAP if you have any concerns.

Folks –

I know you’re all just chomping at the bit to get into the MIS591 course that begins the week of January 10. I’ve attached the syllabus for the course – I think it’s correct. I was going to go over it one last time, but since my secretary says you’re getting impatient, I figured I’d better get it to you now. If there are any errors in it, I’ll let you know. The ELS site for the course has not yet been built, so don’t bother looking for it. I’ll let you know when it’s ready. I’m not sure our bookstore has the text in yet or not, but you can try.

Our first Elluminate session will be January 10 (Sunday) from 7:30 till 9:00 ET. Nothing due on that night. We’ll just go over the syllabus and iron out any technical issues that might come up. Your set of reading and video review assignments for Module I are in the syllabus. This is what you should have done for our Wednesday (Jan 13) Elluminate session. This is where your class participation grades will begin.

Dear New Stetson MBA Student,

I just wanted to send you a quick note from Stetson University’s School of Business Administration with my congratulations on your acceptance into our joint MS in Pharmacy and MBA program with the University of Florida. I am Associate Dean of our School of Business and Director of this program for Stetson.

We are all extremely excited about the prospect of beginning this collaboration with you and UF. I’m sure you are well aware of the exceptional quality of both UF’s Pharmacy program and their faculty. I’m confident that as you get to know our faculty and programs here at Stetson you will come to that same conclusion about us.

As Dr. David Brushwood from UF and I put this program together, there were two main principles that guided our discussions. First and foremost, design a joint program that provides a return on your investment that is greater than the sum of its parts. Our goal is to provide you exceptional value beginning with your first day in the program and lasting throughout the duration of the program. Our second goal is to provide you a curriculum that, while concentrating on the pharmacy industry, does not constrain your learning about the broader aspects of today’s business environment. Obviously, in the MS portion of your program at UF you will focus on pharmacy issues. In the MBA portion of your program, we will focus on pharmacy topics where appropriate and relevant. We feel however, that it is crucial that you see business issues that exist outside the pharmacy domain. Your MBA curriculum will focus on the myriad of issues that face business leaders (both entrepreneurs and corporate executives) today. You will be introduced to and become conversant with both technical and non-technical business disciplines, but, I promise, you will not "miss the forest for the trees".

Since you will not take your first Stetson course until the Spring semester, I will not burden you with bureaucratic details. As you get closer to our courses, I will provide you with whatever details you need. We will make your transition from UF courses to Stetson courses and back as seamless as we possibly can. The only thing I need from you in the short term is a copy of official transcripts from any academic institutions you attended. If you would, please have them sent to me directly – if you haven’t already done so. My address here is:

If you have any questions regarding the program/financial aid/schedules, etc. you can reach me (toll free) at 877-292-8837. I look forward to our time together and wish you the absolute best as you progress through this joint program.
