Fred K. Augustine, Jr., Ph.D.

Dr. Augustine is Professor of Information Systems and Chair of the Department of Decision and Information Sciences at Stetson University. He has written articles published in the Journal of Systems Management, Journal of Computer Information Systems, System Dynamics Review, Journal of End-User Computing, CIS Educators Forum, Interface, The E-Business Review and others. He has consulted with a variety of businesses in the automotive, telecommunications, and information technology industries.

His primary research interests are in the organizational issues involved in the use of web technologies, the development and implementation of e-Business systems and the global aspects of e-Commerce.

Ken Baker, Ph.D., J.D.

Ken Baker teaches Enterprise Risk Management, State Pharmacy Regulation, and Pharmaceutical Crimes at UF. His degrees include a Ph.D. from Purdue University, and J.D. from Indiana University. He practiced as a general trial lawyer for several years, including two-and-a-half years as a deputy prosecuting attorney for Boone County, Indiana. Ken jointed Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company and served as general counsel for the corporation later serving as senior vice president. Along with David Brushwood, Ken co-founded the Pharmacy Quality Commitment medication error reduction system. Baker also served as the executive vice president of PMC Quality Commitment, Inc., and as the first executive director of the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Bitter is a Professor of Accounting at Stetson University. His degrees include a BBA from Stetson University, a MAcc from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Bitter is a CPA and previously worked in public accounting with Ernst and Young. He has been very active in research and has numerous publications in journals such as Strategic Finance and the Southern Business Review. He has also made numerous presentations at various professional conferences. He has actively served the profession and the local community. Dr. Bitter has received numerous awards for his teaching, research and service including being named the School of Business Administration’s Professor of the Year in 2001 and 2006.

David Brushwood, R.Ph., J.D.

David Brushwood is a professor of pharmaceutical outcomes & policy at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, and director of the MS Pharm programs. His degrees include a B.S. in pharmacy and a B.A. in history from the University of Kansas and a J.D. from the University of Kansas Law School. He is currently researching outcomes-oriented professional regulation and pain management regulatory policy. Professor Brushwood has received a number of grants and served as co-investigator on one awarded to UF’s College of Medicine that led to the creation of a statewide network of clinical pharmacist pain management consultants through his participation. Professor Brushwood is a two-time American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics Mayday Scholar.

Bill Fassett is an adjunct professor in Pharmacy Outcomes in Policy at UF. Fassett’s degrees include a B.S. in Pharmacy and a Ph.D. in Leadership and Policy Studies, with a specialization in professional ethics, from the University of Washington, and an M.B.A., in information system management and marketing research from the University of Puget Sound. He is also a professor of Pharmacy Law & Ethics at Washington State University. He served as Dean of the WSU College of Pharmacy from 1999-2005. He is treasurer of the American Society for Pharmacy Law and is also editor of two publications for the society. Fassett is chair of the editorial panel on Law, Medicine and Ethics of the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, and serves on the editorial board of American Health & Drug Benefits.

Teresa Kauf, Ph.D.

Teresa Kauf is an associate professor at the UF College of Pharmacy. She’s earned a B.A. in economics from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and an M.S. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include technology assessment and health services research in the areas of infectious disease and diseases affecting the elderly. Dr. Kauf held appointments at the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy and the Center for Clinical and Genetic Economics at Duke University before coming to UF. She has worked with private and public institutions, including GlaxoSmithKline and the American Medical Association.

Stuart Michelson, Ph.D.

Dr. Michelson is the Roland and Sarah George Professor of Finance at Stetson University in DeLand Florida. His holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Kansas and an MBA from the University of Missouri. He is editor of the academic journal, Financial Services Review. He has published extensively in academic and professional journals, including: the Journal of Investing, Journal of Financial Planning, Managerial Finance, and the Journal of Business, Finance, and Accounting. He is the member of the editorial board of several scholarly journals and is an active member of Financial Executives International and the Financial Planning Association. He has completed several studies for the Institute of Public Policy and Business Research and Daytona Beach Community College. He is the past President of the Academy of Financial Services, the past President of the Academy of Business Education, and past President of the Central Florida Financial Executives International. He is chair of the School of Business Graduate Committee, Unit System Change Committee, and Policy Review Committee. He is chair of the University Finance Committee and a member of the University Trustees Finance and Investments Committee. He is interim Director of the Executive MBA program.

Richard Segal, Ph.D.

Richard Segal is a professor and department chair at the UF College of Pharmacy. His degrees include a B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut, an M.S. in hospital and clinical pharmacy from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical outcomes research from Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Segal has received regional and national awards for his research in the areas of clinical research, hospital practice research, and pharmacoeconomics. He has authored or co-authored more than 80 published papers including a number of manuscripts.

Peggy Stahl, M.S.O.D.

Peggy S. Stahl is a Lecturer with the Management and International Business Department of Stetson’s School of Business. She teaches and develops courses for undergraduate and post-graduate programs at the Deland and Celebration campuses. She holds a M.S. in Organization Development from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California and a B.A. in Political Science from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. She is certified in online instruction from New York University and in facilitation of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.

Stahl maintains a consulting practice and is currently working with Stetson’s Family Enterprise Center. Her professional background includes more than 20 years experience in organization development consulting and executive and managerial training with a variety of clients such as Baxter Pharmaceutical, BP, Department of Justice, and the Federal Aviation Administration.

W. Thomas (Tommy) Smith is a professor in pharmacy law and ethics at the University of Florida, and also teaches regulation and policy online for UF. His degrees include a Ph.D. in pharmacy from the Saint Louis College of Pharmacy and a J.D. from the Saint Louis University School of Law. Tommy has served as the Director of Operations for Corum Health Services, Inc., in Saint Louis, Missouri and is also active in the American Bar Association Health Law Section, where he has served for two years as vice chair of the Medical Research, Biotechnology, & Clinical Ethics Interest Group. In 2008, he was appointed to the Commission on Mental & Physical Disability Law. His areas of interest include federal pharmacy regulations, clinical ethics, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals with disabilities, and ethical behaviors in students and healthcare professionals. Tommy recently published an article in the American Journal of Health Systems Pharmacy.

Elliot M. Sogol, Ph.D., R.Ph., F.A.Ph.A

Elliott M. Sogol is a consultant in the Clinical Research Regulation and Ethics program at UF and also teaches a research methods course for the university. Sogol earned a Ph.D. in pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. He is the Professional Services group manager for Target Corporation where he oversees and directs clinical pharmacy services, pharmacist and technician educational programs and professional development programs. He served as chair of the corporate affairs / commercial operations privacy communication team looking at health care issues related to consumer and medical information privacy, ethics, and confidentiality. He was the director of strategic operations for the regional medical scientist group at Glaxo Smith Kline. Sogol serves as a liaison for the Schools of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Associations across the US.

Dr. Surynt is Professor of Information Systems and Associate Dean of the Stetson University School of Business Administration. During his twenty-five plus years at Stetson, he has been instrumental in the creation of business technology programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level. He has published numerous articles dealing with Information Systems pedagogical issues. For fifteen years he was owner and president of Surynt Computer Services, a software consulting and contract-programming firm. Prior to coming to Stetson, he was a Systems Engineer and Corporate Planning Analyst for IBM Corporation.

Carolyn Nicholson is Chair of the Marketing Department and an Associate Professor of Marketing at Stetson University’s School of Business. Carolyn joined the Stetson University faculty in 2000. She earned her Ph.D. in Marketing from Virginia Tech and her M.A. in Communications from The University of Georgia.

Her primary academic interests include business-to-business marketing, branding, and promotions. Her research has been published in International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Education for Business, Journal of Marketing Channels, Marketing Education Review, and Journal of Business Cases and Applications; she has presented her research at numerous national and regional conferences. At Stetson University, she teaches promotions, distribution, consumer behavior, and graduate Marketing courses. She has been named Stetson University School of Business Administration’s Teacher of the Year twice.

Monique Forte, Ph.D.

Monique Forte is a Full Professor and former Chair of the Management Department. She holds an M.B.A. from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. from Florida State University. She teaches throughout all levels at Stetson, including the Freshman Experience course, the senior-level Strategic Management course, and multiple management courses for non-traditional learners at Stetson’s campus in Celebration.

Her research interests include applications of psychological type, organizational politics, and strategic change. Forte is an active contributor to scholarly conferences and has published articles in the Journal of Psychological Type, the Journal of Management Education, and Strategic Management Journal.
