FAQs – MBA Program

Frequently Asked Questions
Master of Business Administration Degree Program – Stetson University

Q. What is an MBA?

A. The MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a graduate level degree, providing the student with advanced studies in the various business disciplines. Originally designed for students with a bachelors degree in fields other than business, this degree has evolved into a program that is attractive both to students who have completed an undergraduate degree in business and to those who have completed an undergraduate degree in non-business fields.

Q. Do I need an undergraduate degree in business to be eligible to enroll in the MBA program?

A. No, the MBA program is open to anyone who has an undergraduate degree regardless of major.

Q. Am I at a disadvantage if I do not have an undergraduate degree in business?

A. While there is no question that a student entering the MBA program with an undergraduate degree in a business discipline will be more familiar with the terms and concepts found in these advanced business studies, the curriculum is designed to provide sufficient foundation material to enable all students to excel.

Q. Who needs an MBA?

A. In today’s hyper-competitive job market, anyone looking to move into the ranks of corporate management, or to move up the corporate management hierarchy will find that an MBA will enhance their competitive position in the job search process.

Q. How does an MBA enhance my career path?

A. Hiring managers appreciate both prospective and existing employees with MBA degrees for two reasons. The first is the employees ability to bring advanced business concepts, cutting edge business thinking, knowledge about up-to-date business trends, and analytical business tools to the organization. The second reason is that the MBA graduate has a proven track record of accomplishment in a rigorous program of study that requires insight, determination, focus and communication skills.

Q. How many courses will I take?

A. The MBA program consists of a total of 30 credit hours (10 courses). Two of these courses will be transferred in as electives from the pharmacy portion of the dual degree program. The remaining 8 courses will be taken from Stetson faculty.

Q. What kinds of courses will I take?

A. A complete list of the courses in the program, along with their descriptions is found on a different page of this website. Courses are taken in all functional areas of modern business.

Q. Will I have a specific "major"?

A. The vast majority of MBA programs offer a "generalist" degree. This means that there is no specific major within the MBA program. The traditional MBA offers a breadth of knowledge across all business disciplines rather than depth in any particular business discipline. While some institutions offer a business discipline-specific masters program, Stetson’s MBA is a "generalist" degree.
